The Guinness World Record contains a collection of world records, both human achievements and the extremes of the natural world. The Guinness Book of Records is the world’s most sold copyrighted book, thus earning it an entry within its own pages.

A number of spin-off books and television series have also been produced. Keith “Ashrita” Furman has set 513 official Guinness Records and currently holds 179 standing records, including the record for holding the most Guinness world records. He has been breaking records since 1979.

10- Longest Fingernails

Christine Walton from Las Vegas, Nevada, USA owns the longest fingernails. In February 2011, Walton’s nails at that time measured a combined 6.019 m (19 ft 1 in), made her the new record holder after taking the title from previous record holder Lee Redmond who lost her nails in a car crash in early 2009. Christine Walton aka “The Dutchess,” hasn’t cut her fingernails since 1990. The mother of five claims to have no trouble leading a normal life. She can cook, clean and even play the piano.

9- Shortest Woman


Jyoti Amge, the world’s shortest woman, stands only 24.7 inches (62.8 cm) tall. Amge is a resident of Nagpur, India, her restricted height is due to a growth anomaly called achondroplasia. In the men’s category Chandra Bahadur Dangi of Nepal is the shortest man in the world, measuring 0.546 m (1 ft 9 in). All of his family members are of usual size.

8- Tallest Man

Sultan Kosen of Turkey first became the world’s tallest living man in 2009, when he measured 246.5 cm (8 ft 1 in) in height. His family members are all normal-sized but him. Kosen’s growth resulted from a tumour affecting his pituitary gland. Starting in 2010, Kösen received Gamma Knife treatment for his pituitary tumour at the University of Virginia Medical School and has also been provided with medication to control his excessive levels of growth hormone.

Currently, he holds the Guinness World Record for the tallest living male at 2.51 m (8 ft 3 in). Not only the tallest, but Kösen also holds the current Guinness record for the largest hands at 27.5 cm, and the largest feet at 36.5 cm (left foot) and 35.5 cm (right foot). The world’s tallest man got married in 2013 and hoped to have two children.

7- Longest Hair

A Chinese woman holds the world’s longest documented hair belongs to Xie Qiuping at 5.627 m (18 ft 5.54 in) when measured in May 2004. She has been growing her hair since 1973 from the age of 13.

6- Longest Sword Swallowed

Natasha Veruschka of the United States swallowed a sword 58 cm (22.83 in) long sword on Sword Swallowers Awareness Day, 28 February 2009. Veruschka holds the 2009 Guinness Record for “the longest sword swallowed.”

5- Thomas Blackthorne


Thomas Blackthorne holds the world record of the greatest weight lifted with a human tongue is 12.5 kg (27 lb 8.96 oz). Thomas Blackthorne from the United Kingdom, lifted the weight hooked through his tongue on the set of El Show Olímpico, in Mexico City, Mexico, on 1 August 2008. He is also a famous sword swallower.

4- The Scorpion Queen

Kanchana Ketkaew is a 30 year old stunt woman from Thailand, holds the Guinness Record for “longest duration living with scorpions”. Ketkaew lived in a glass room measuring 12 m² (130 ft²) containing 5,320 scorpions for 33 days and nights at the Royal Garden Plaza, Pattaya, Thailand, from 22 December 2008 to 24 January 2009. Over the 33 days, she was stung thirteen times.

3- The most expensive edible fungus

The White Truffle or scientifically known as Tuber magnum pico is the world’s most expensive edible fungus, according to GWR. The rare fungus costs up to U$3,000 per kilo, which can only be found in the Italian regions of Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany and Marches, and the Istrian peninsula of Croatia. They only grow about a foot underground and can only be located with the help of trained dogs.

The most spoons balanced on the face is 31 and was achieved by Dalibor Jablanovic (Serbia), in Stubica, Serbia, on 28 September 2013.
